Why we’ve introduced it, and what it means for your training
Over the last few months, you might have noticed a shift in some of the sessions.
A bit more structure.
More focus on pacing.
Longer efforts mixed in with strength work.
That hasn’t happened by accident.
We’ve officially brought HYROX into Eley Fitness, and I want to explain why…
What HYROX actually is
Imagine a fitness race that’s taken over gyms across the world – one kilometre run, a workout station, another kilometre, another station, eight times over.
Same format everywhere, so you can race in Manchester, Berlin, or Dubai and know exactly what you’re walking into.
No gimmicks, no mystery.
Just you, the clock, and a very honest test of what you’re made of.
The stations – sled pushes, ski erg, rowing, lunges, wall balls – are brutal in the best possible way.
Simple movements that expose exactly where your fitness is at.
Why we’ve brought it in
Most of you are already showing up and working hard, and you’re getting fitter for it. But there comes a point where effort alone stops being enough. You need something to aim at. A format that shows you where you stand and gives you a clear way to get better.
HYROX does exactly that.
It doesn’t replace what we do here – it sharpens it.
Suddenly your training has a target, and that changes everything.
Who it’s for
Honestly?
It’s not just for people chasing a race.
It’s for anyone who’s felt their progress stall a little, who wants to find a new level but isn’t sure how to get there, or who just wants to feel that buzz of really testing themselves again.
The competition side is there if you want it – but the real win is what the training does to you along the way.
You don’t need to feel ready.
That’s what we’re here for.
What the race actually feels like
Here’s the thing about HYROX – it gets into your head in a way most training doesn’t.
You don’t just hit a hard effort and recover.
You push through a tough station, and then you’re straight back out running, legs heavy, lungs burning, knowing there’s more to come. It demands something different from you. You have to learn to pace yourself, manage the fatigue, and keep your form together when every part of you wants to ease off. When you figure that out, the progress is unlike anything else.
How we’ll use it at Eley Fitness
This is the bit I really want you to take in.
Most of you aren’t going to sign up for a race – and that’s completely fine.
You don’t need to.
The reason we’ve brought HYROX in isn’t to turn Eley Fitness into a competition prep gym. It’s because the style of training it’s built around is genuinely brilliant for everyone, whatever your goal.
The sessions aren’t full race simulations.
They’re varied, they’re fun, and they’re built to work for you wherever you’re at.
Some days you’ll feel elements of HYROX woven into the session without it even feeling like that’s what it is. Other days it’ll be more structured. But it’ll always be accessible — whether you’re brand new to this or you’ve been training for years.
What HYROX gives us is a framework.
A way to mix strength and conditioning in a format that actually gets results.
More purpose behind the programming, clearer progress you can see and feel, and sessions that keep challenging you without ever feeling like you’re being thrown in the deep end.
If a race appeals to you somewhere down the line, brilliant – we’ll get you there.
But if you just want to train hard, feel good, and keep getting better?
This is built for you too.
Come find me in the gym if you want to talk about how it fits into your training.
I’d love to tell you more.
